The Great Sphinx of Giza, one of the most iconic monuments in ancient Egypt, stands as a limestone guardian on the Giza Plateau, believed to date back over 4,500 years. Carved from a single massive outcrop, the Sphinx combines the body of a lion with the head of a pharaoh, symbolizing strength, wisdom, and royal power.
This 3D LiDAR scanned, Gaussian Splat reconstruction was captured with the XGRIDS Lixel L2 handheld scanner and processed in Lixel Cyber Color (LCC) Studio, preserving the monument's intricate details with unparalleled precision. From weathered facial features to the fine textures of the stone, the scan offers a vivid, high-resolution glimpse into the enduring mystery and grandeur of this ancient wonder.
With just a single pass using the Lixel L2 scanner and SLAM-based 3D Gaussian technology, the iconic Sphinx was rapidly and accurately captured. The process was incredibly simple and efficient, thanks to the advanced capabilities of the XGRIDS equipment.
Using AI to automatically remove dynamic shadows and perform simple retouching, we obtained a clean and clear 3DGS model. This breakthrough allows people who can't visit it in person to experience the Sphinx as if they were there!
Imagine the transformative impact this technology can have on the cultural tourism industry. With the Lixel series, historical sites can be digitally preserved and shared globally, bringing immersive experiences to everyone, anywhere.
